Chrome Extension Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy – SEO Audit for Accountants Chrome Extension
Last updated: May 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the SEO Audit for Accountants Chrome extension (“the Extension”), provided by Accountants SEO (“we”, “us”, “our”), handles your information when you use the Extension.
We have written this policy in plain English so you can understand exactly what we do and do not collect.
1. Quick summary
- The Extension performs SEO analysis locally inside your browser.
- We do not track your browsing or collect any data automatically.
- The only personal information we collect is your email address, and only if you choose to download a PDF or CSV report.
- Your email is sent to us so we can offer SEO help if you ever need it.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
2. What the Extension does
When you visit a website and click the Run SEO Audit button, the Extension:
- Reads the publicly available HTML and metadata of that page (such as the page title, meta tags, headings, schema markup, and image attributes).
- Fetches the website’s sitemap.xml to count pages and posts.
- Optionally calls Google’s PageSpeed Insights API — but only if you have entered your own free API key in Settings. If you have not added a key, this feature is disabled.
All analysis runs on your device. None of this data is sent to AccountantsSEO.com.
3. Information we collect
We only collect information when you give it to us, and only for the purposes described below.
a) Email address (when you download a report)
When you click Download PDF or Download CSV in the Extension, you will be asked to enter your email address one time. After that, the Extension remembers it locally so you don’t have to enter it again.
We collect this email so that:
- We can identify users who are getting value from the tool.
- We can contact you if you reach out for SEO help.
- We can send occasional product updates about the Extension (you can unsubscribe at any time).
b) Audit context
When your email is submitted, we also receive the URL of the page you audited and its overall SEO score. This is included only so we can provide relevant follow-up help if you request it.
c) What we do NOT collect
We do not collect:
- Your browsing history or web activity
- Login credentials, cookies, or authentication tokens
- Form data, payment information, or financial information
- Health or medical information
- Location or GPS data
- Any data from pages you have not actively chosen to audit
- Your name, phone number, or any data beyond email
4. Data stored locally on your device
The following information is stored only on your computer, in Chrome’s local storage, accessible only to the Extension:
- Your theme preference (light or dark mode)
- A list of the last 10 URLs you audited, along with their scores (your audit history)
- Your email address (only if you provided one for a download)
- Your Google PageSpeed Insights API key (only if you added one in Settings)
This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time from the Settings screen inside the Extension, or by uninstalling the Extension.
5. Third-party services
The Extension uses two third-party services to function. We have selected each one carefully and limited the data shared to the absolute minimum required.
Service | When it is used | What is sent |
Web3Forms | Only when you submit your email to download a report | Your email address, the URL you audited, and your audit score |
Google PageSpeed Insights API | Only if you have added your own API key in Settings | The URL of the page you are auditing |
We have no control over how these services handle data after they receive it. Please review their privacy policies:
- Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy
We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services in the Extension.
6. How we use your email
If you submit your email through the Extension, we may:
- Send you a one-time welcome email with helpful SEO resources
- Reach out to offer hands-on SEO help if your audit shows critical issues
- Send occasional product updates (no more than once per month)
We will never:
- Sell your email to anyone
- Share your email with advertisers
- Use your email to spam you
- Add you to unrelated mailing lists
You can ask us to delete your email at any time by emailing [email protected] from the address you submitted.
7. Permissions explained
The Extension requests these Chrome permissions, each of which is required for a specific feature:
Permission | Why we need it |
activeTab | To read the current tab’s HTML when you click Run SEO Audit — only on your action, never automatically |
scripting | To inject the audit script into the active tab so it can extract publicly available SEO information for analysis |
storage | To save your settings, audit history, email, and API key locally on your device |
downloads | To save the CSV report file to your computer |
host_permissions (https/http) | To fetch the audited site’s sitemap.xml and (if you enabled it) call Google’s PageSpeed API |
We have requested only the permissions strictly necessary for the Extension’s features. We do not have the ability to read pages you do not actively audit.
8. Data security
The Extension does not store any sensitive personal or financial information.
The email submission to Web3Forms is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Web3Forms then forwards the email to [email protected], which is hosted on our standard email provider with industry-standard security.
If you ever suspect your information has been accessed inappropriately, please email us at [email protected] and we will investigate.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the information we have about you (email us)
- Correct any inaccurate information
- Delete your information from our records (email us and we will remove it within 30 days)
- Withdraw consent at any time by clearing your saved email in the Extension’s Settings or by uninstalling the Extension
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA respectively, including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
10. Children’s privacy
The Extension is intended for professional use by accountants, bookkeepers, SEO consultants, and business owners. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
11. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example, to reflect new features or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always show when it was most recently changed.
For significant changes, we will note them in the Extension’s release notes on the Chrome Web Store.
We recommend reviewing this page occasionally to stay informed about how we protect your information.
12. International data transfers
If you are based outside the country where our servers are hosted, please note that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own.
By using the Extension, you consent to this transfer. We take reasonable steps to ensure your data is treated securely, regardless of where it is processed.
